Oct-10-07  Riverbeast: I think 12. h5 is a novelty in this position, I could not find it in any of the databases. If it is, it probably puts this variation out of commission. If 12...Nxh5 13. Rxh5 gxh5 14. Qg3 Bf6 15. dxc5 Nxc5 16. Rxd6 with strong attack for the exchange. Black can try 16. ...h4 17. Qh2 Be7, but then white can sack another exchange: 18. e5! Bxd6 19. exd6 Nxb3+ 20. axb3 Qc6 21. Qe5 followed by Ne4 with murder on the dark squares
Oct-10-07  Riverbeast: Of course, if 12...c4 13. Ba4 b5, white has 14. Bxb5 axb5 15. Nxb5 Q moves 16. e5 + -
Oct-10-07  Riverbeast: Instead of 26. ...0-0, if black plays 26...Ng5 then 27. Nd6+!

jeff sarwer: Wow, nice game against Ivanov :)
Oct-23-07  Jim Bartle: Black's position must have been pretty desperate if 26...0-0 was the best option.
Oct-23-07  Riverbeast: Thanks Jeff, I also played this tournament after a long layoff - it had been several years since I had played a tournament and my USCF membership had expired. So it was a surprise to beat a player like Ivanov in the final round....sometimes a layoff from the game gives you a fresh outlook! ;-)
Dec-16-11  King Death: This was a nice win against a tough player.

Has anybody else seen this crazy line that I remember from the 1980s instead of 5...e6 with 5...b5 6.Nb5 d5?
