Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-30-08  Coleman: Wow! Did he just the obvious threat NxD6. Was there time pressure? The end gane looks like speed chess.
Jan-30-08  jonnymalk: probably not, it was shortly after time control.

But maybe there was time trouble later, as Zhao missed mate in 3 on move 55.

Instead of 55. Bxf7, Zhao should've played c7+

Feb-01-08  socnegoti: Good game by Zong. Nakamura's peformance rating was severely dented by this game.
Feb-09-08  Eyal: <Instead of 55. Bxf7, Zhao should've played c7+>

Doesn't make any practical difference, of course, but it does allow a nice mate by underpromotion: 55.c7+ Kd7 56.Re7+ Kxd6 57.c8N#.

Feb-09-08  jonnymalk: hence "mate in 3..."
May-08-08  acirce: <Doesn't make any practical difference, of course, but it does allow a nice mate by underpromotion: 55.c7+ Kd7 56.Re7+ Kxd6 57.c8N#.>

Zhao said he had seen this but was afraid that he would take a queen by mistake! Obviously, that would have won too, but still.

Jul-27-13  EvanTheTerrible: Nakamura would have won the tournament even if he had just drawn this IM. Rather, he lost the game and the tournament.
Jul-27-13  jsy: Nakamura did win this tournament despite losing to this IM
