Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-31-10  Nightsurfer: Black wants to avoid the dire consequences of accepting THE GREEK SACRIFICE of White Bishop on h7 - please compare the similar situation in E Froehling vs B Raupach, 2004 - , but that does not help either, White forces his opponent to accept the treacherous "gift" anyway. One strange aspect should be mentioned: For centuries a constellation like that is well-known since legendary Greco has first demonstrated the way Black castle can be shattered by a White Bishop crashing against h7 way back in 1620, please compare Greco vs NN, 1620 , yet many people fall prey to that trap over and over again, one more texbook case that has happened quite recently is R Gralla vs Massoud Amini, 2010 ! Therefore it would be a good idea to read one or two books about chess history - instead of playing endless games of bullet chess or so, an aspect that has been discussed on the occasion of a lengthy (German-language) interview with Chess-Editor Manfred Olms in 2005. The text has been published by ChessBase.de, please check out http://www.chessbase.de/nachrichten... !
