Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-08-10  drmariogodrob: This ending looks exactly like a recent chessgames puzzle of the day...Someone have the record of this?
Aug-08-10  Dr. Funkenstein: Is 71. ...Bg7 really necessary (even though it sets up a cool zugzwang to win a move later), doesn't 71... Bf8+ followed by any king move and Kxb1 win immediately? Maybe black was in time trouble at this point which would explain why white plays on after 68. ...b1=Q!

I can see why white went in for 24. Ndxe4 to relieve the pressure, but he can't hang on to the e3 pawn (although 26. Nd1 looks tempting) and black trades down a good ending, but still one that requires some patient technique and accuracy to convert. Well played game overall by GM Robson against a 2600 GM.

An Englishman: Good Evening: I agree with <drmariogodrob>; this looks like some of the puzzles from perhaps a couple of months ago.
Aug-11-10  Dr. Funkenstein: I think so too, there was a puzzle a few months back where queening a pawn to open up the seventh rank for the king was the answer
