Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-23-10  technical draw: Pretty silly game. Why doesn't black take the a1 rook?
Sep-23-10  whiteshark: <technical scale> He probably didn't like the ♕ vs ♖♖ trade-off / imbalance.
Sep-23-10  Gilmoy: Book trap, I think: 10..Qxa1 11.Qb3 <no escape> Rb8 <Black doesn't have time for c4> 12.Bb5 Nge7 <c4 13.Qc2 and Black has lost the hidden-triple on d4> 13.Bc1. Moving the Nb1 probably doesn't work, since Black would be happy/grateful to trade Q for RR+P.

Sometimes Black can even "sac" his QR this way, and play Kd8-Kc7 to trap a White Qa8, then show the first move of an unstoppable knight tour, and 0-1. That's not a free rook, it's a pig hanging from a vine on top of a ground net hidden under leaves. Chewbacca says: <Don't think with your stomach!>

Sep-23-10  Gilmoy: On second look, since Black's 12..c4 is the most annoying move (fork threat and drives White's Q from b3), White's most elegant retort is to play 12.c4! himself. Then Black can't easily dislodge the Qb3, and Bc1 is coming.

Cuteness: 12..dxc4 13.Bxc4 cxd4 14.Bc1! Na5? 15.Qb5+, and the Bc4 takes over the role of defending a2. Black's best result is probably to sell Q for R+B + a couple of pawns, but with an undeveloped K-side, and facing Q-side pins. Probably an unwise way to grub for 1 point of material.
