Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-08-14  greed and death: Mate in 1 no matter what black does.

65. Rh1! is a nice example of using sacrifices to pull defending pieces away from the squares they're needed at.

Aug-08-14  Tim Delaney: I don't get the pun. Also, I don't understand why black played on after move 50. Qd1.

The concluding combination was nice, but black was dead lost at that point.

Aug-08-14  waustad: Another pop culture reference I had to look up. Oh well, maybe it will come up in a crossword puzzle someday. The pun refers to a band I'd never heard of. <Tim Delaney> responded while I was correcting a spelling mistake.
Aug-08-14  ColeTrane: it means whoever made the pun thinks shes sexy

Check It Out: Another good band from these parts.

So we have Kabanova shortened to Kab sounds like "cab" and if we turn off our sexism filters and objectify a chess player by her looks we could say she's a cutie.

Okaaay.

That aside, it's a fun game to play through. Black gets a paratrooper rook onto the second rank but then finds that the rook has nothing to do. It wibbles about a bit before being forced to give up the exchange. Meanwhile the strongly posted white knight turns out to be more powerful than a rook.

As usual, Phony's law applies. It seems that we can either have a good game or a good pun, but rarely both at the same time.

This is a good game.

Aug-08-14  kevin86: 65 decoy pin- sac = ♕h1!!
Aug-08-14  posoo: da fetishization of female chesse players continues! WACH OUT. Posoo's on da alert. Anyone here a femmanist?!

POSOO SAID IT.

Aug-08-14  eaglewing: A better answer to the double threat move 50. Qd1 might be 50. ... Qg6.
Aug-09-14  Tim Delaney: <eaglewing: A better answer to the double threat move 50. Qd1 might be 50. ... Qg6.> Indeed it is! I was too hasty earlier thinking that White's 50th move immediately won the exchange (as was Black).

White's best is then 51, Kg1 with the idea of bringing the king to e1 and playing Qf3. The rook is still trapped, and meanwhile White must prevent Black's Queen from gaining the h file. Fortunately, that takes Black several moves to accomplish. Once the White queen reaches f3, guarding g2 and eying g3, Black's counterplay evaporates.

Ultimately, White will win the exchange and finish a piece ahead in an easy ending.

Aug-09-14  Moszkowski012273: 28.Bh6... would of put this one away quicker.
