Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-22-10  Marmot PFL: Incredibly bad game by white. Totally neglects development of the king side, pointless trades, tactical oversights. Moves 14 and 15 wreck his pawn structure and give black the a-file, 22 Ra1 is an amateur mistake. Even so after 36...Ra6? 37 Bxc5 Bxc5 38 Rg8 might have drawn.
Oct-22-10  SugarDom: Why was Bacrot invited at Nanjing?

Why was Gashimov invited?

Oct-22-10  Kaosking: Wow i am a gashimov fan but and i did question why bacrot was invited but Gashimov just let Bacrot do anything he wanted in this game....very dissapointed
Oct-22-10  Shams: What's the French word for spanking?
Oct-23-10  jmboutiere: le mot est "fessee" avec un accent aigue
I hope it helps
Oct-23-10  ozmikey: Very strange play by Gashimov. What on earth was 14. Nb6+ about? OK, White's not entirely comfortable already, but that's hardly a reason to drop a pawn for virtually nothing.
Oct-23-10  parisattack: Not much punch to 7. Nc6.

Just eyeballing the results from major tournaments on CG.com, the hypermodern debuts such as the English have not fared well for white the past decade or so... I'm just guessing but think perhaps they don't match up well with the current breed of computer/technical GMs.

I'd love to see a champion of hypermodernism appear at the SGM level...

Nov-06-10  ReikiMaster: 14.Rc1 looks ok. 22.Ra1 looks bad but white actually got the pawn back 5 moves later leaving black one healthy pawn more. Black could have kept it simply with 33...Rxc4.
