Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-07-10  whiteshark: Yet another perfect game.
Nov-08-10  Marmot PFL: <After 12.e4 in Grischuk-Wang Hao, Kramnik said to his compatriot: “It’s good that you didn’t play this at the Olympiad, because if he takes on e4 you can resign.” Grischuk returned to the board and saw that Wang Hao had played 12…Bg6 quickly. He started calculating 12…Nxe4 a bit, but didn’t understand Kramnik’s idea. Later, but still during the game, Kramnik admitted to Grischuk that he had mixed up some positions…

Grischuk agreed that it was wrong to talk to another player about his position. “But I don’t think it’s unethical. I mean, if I had quickly lost the game it wouldn’t matter, and because he didn’t take it made no difference either.” Still, chief arbiter Geurt Gijssen is planning to speak with Grischuk and Kramnik about it…> That story doesn't even make sense. Any amateur can see that 12...Nxe4? is just a mistake.

Nov-08-10  Marmot PFL: Actually its not that easy to refute, but the point is 12...Nxe4 13 fe4 Qh4+ 14 Kd2 and 14...Qxe4 attacking d4 loses to 15 Nd6+ and the fork forces black's bishop to break the pin on Nc3 winning the queen. If 14...Bxe4 15 Qe1 black is forced into a lost ending with only 2 pawns for the knight. But for me its tense enough just playing the game without people making comments like that.
Nov-09-10  whiteshark: <Kramnik admitted to Grischuk that he had mixed up some positions…> Not for the first time in this tournament. Let's hope he's not in a pretty mess...
