  LoveThatJoker: Cool game.

Brought to my attention by <frogbert>.

Mar-13-12  haydn20: I too looked over here because of Frogbert's post. So-Gupta 2008 went 7. Nxc6 bxc6 8. Ba6 Qd5 9. 0-0 Ng6 10. d3 exd3 11. Bxd3 0-0-0?? and Black really castled into it. He needed to play Rd8 and figured to get a twofer. Rd8, moving the f8B then 0-0 looks fine.
Mar-13-12  haydn20: In the game Black may even have an edge after he trades the a-Pawn, but once the Q's are gone the game sorta dies, what with the OCB's & balanced P's.

LoveThatJoker: <haydn20> Could you kindly post the pgn to the So-Gupta game, please?

CG unfortunately doesn't have it and I would like to see what transpired there.

Thank you in advance,

  LoveThatJoker: <haydn20> PS. I've just checked the position with Stockfish after 7. Nxc6 bxc6 8. Ba6 Qd5 9. 0-0 Ng6 10. d3 exd3 11. Bxd3 0-0-0?? and noticed that 12. Rd1! is utterly crushing as it forces 12...Kb8 (so as to avoid the discovered check) 13. Bc2 Qxd1 (practically forced)

Even though this obviously answers how So would have defeated Gupta, it would be cool to see the game's PGN (unless Gupta resigned immediately).

Penguincw: And the opposite-coloured bishop ending is another draw.
