Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-26-13  ELCABALLO238: 46. ... Qc2+ 47.Kg3 Qc7+ is the only way for Fabiano to continue the struggle. However, the Rook ending is lost for Black.
Jan-26-13  Gilmoy: Van Wely's plan of pointing all his pieces where the enemy King <isn't> has paid off! Maybe it works <because> the K isn't there to help defend ...

A breakthrough vs. a pawn base always has the bonus of unzipping the chain. Hence <31.Bc5> is not really offering a "pawn trade", since White is indirectly threatening 2 pawns.

After <24..Qd8> White's plan is clear, but slow. Black looks like he's trying to set up a Bb8-Qd6 battery for distractions at h2, but misses by one tempo.

<30.Bb4> Qe4 must have been even worse. I guess White parks Rb6 and indirectly threatens g6.

HeMateMe: Fab didn't realize how weak his back rank was. Odd to see a GM overlook this, with so few pieces left on the board.

Very aggressive opening by van Wely, h3-g4. Maybe Caruna should have pressed to exose the somewhat openned king position of white?

Sep-05-13  The Last Straw: <HeMateMe>Slav Defense: Quiet Variation.
