 | | FSR: 10.d3? was as weak as a Greek playing bezique. Black should have responded with 10...Bxh2+! 11.Kxh2 Qh5+ 12.Kg1 Bxe2 . If White then tried to recoup material with 13.Bxg7, Bf3! crushes. |
Apr-15-13 | | Abdel Irada: <FSR: 22...Qxh2+ "and Black is for choice" (whatever that means).> If I answered you, someone would tell me to take it to the <Kenneth Rogoff> page. |

Apr-15-13 | | zb2cr: The N on f5 and the P on f3 combine to build a wall down the g file. This allows 22. ... Qxh2+; 23. Kxh2, Rh6#. |

Apr-15-13 | | abuzic: <leow:>
I often confuse Deutch for Dutch and vs, it is Netherlands correct. |

Apr-15-13 | | leow: In The Netherlands, we speak dutch (Nederlands)
In Germany they speak German (Deutch)
So Dutch is the English (American ?) word for the Dutch language, and Deutch is the German word for the German language. |

Full Marks for your linguistic explanations! |
Apr-15-13 | | realbrob: Yes, though the spelling should be Deutsch (with S) and not "Deutch". By the way German and Dutch are closely related languages... I can't speak Dutch but it looks and sounds very very similar to the German dialects which are spoken in Nort-Western Germany. |
Apr-15-13 | | MountainMatt: Monday? A queen sac? Mate next? You betcha! 22...Qxh2+ 23. Kxh2 Rh6# |
Apr-15-13 | | Once: Oh, I know this one! It's the attack on the Death Star by the rebel alliance. The black queen is the millennium falcon clearing away the defenders so that Luke Warmwater in his x-wing rook can fly along the sixth rank and h file trench and drop a proton torpedo down the thermal exhaust port on h2 while the black king advises him to use the force Luke and the Rh8 wonders why he has turned off his targeting scanners. No? Only me then. |

Apr-15-13 | | zb2cr: Hi <Once>,
In this case, your normally brilliant analogy maker breaks down. The Black Queen gives up her life to clear the road--Han Solo & the Millennium Falcon survived to fight another day. |
Apr-15-13 | | BraveUlysses: <Nick46>, "LOL" at your idea of playing with the victim, cat-like, with 22...Rh6? but unfortunately 23.Be5 crashes the party |
Apr-15-13 | | tivrfoa: the question is: can white at least draw after 19. ... exf3? maybe Qxg7? |
Apr-16-13 | | MostlyWatch: I was thinking that Han Solo analogy was pretty good. The "queen" was originally a man, y'know. King's chief adviser or #1 vizier or whatever, some european changed it to a queen. The Book of Ether (qv.) pegs it exactly right, over and over this is the Asian pattern. Black v. White... good v. bad... old kingdom v. rebel armies, and of course sometimes the rebels are actually the good guys. Chess was originally modelled after Asian politics. The invention of democracy was a godsend. Notice how when the king is surrounded and threatened with death the war is over and the soldiers on both sides can go home. He's never executed. Spends the rest of his days in prison (unless he escapes to start another war / reinstatement attempt.) The Book of Ether gets this detail correct also. |
