Oct-03-18  Retireborn: The plan with 9...Kh8 intending ...Rg8 and ...g5 is interesting, but not seen very often. Another example from the same year:-

Maroczy vs L Dewing, 1924

It is difficult to know what to make of 68.Kd5 or to understand how Euwe could have missed the simple Rd1+ in reply. Would be interested to see commentary from the tb or elsewhere.

69...Rxc3 is also surprising, as 69...Rd1+ 70.Kc6 Kxf6 would seem to draw comfortably. Probably Euwe took the position after 71...Kg7 to be drawn, but he was lucky that Bolland did not know the unique winning move 72.Ra2 as given by Nunn in his book. According to Nunn control of the a-file is vital in these positions.

sachistu: The move (67.Re2) is a typo from ChessBase. The move given in Tony Gillam's Weston tournament book (p.55) is 67.Rd2. As <Retireborn> pointed out, in the score currently given, Euwe would have had the winning move 68...Rd1+.

The tournament round summary indicates Euwe admits being fortunate in the tournament as he had a clearly lost game against Bolland.
