Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-15-15  Ulhumbrus: 14...h5 looks like a completely unsound attack.

If the right course for White is to open lines against Black's king by means of a sacrifice, this suggests the question of what the right choice of sacrifice is. One example of a sacrifice is a Muzio gambit type sacrifice: 15 f4 exf4 16 Bxf4 .

Apart from that one alternative to 15 f3 is 15 h4 to be followed by f4

After 20...Nh5 Black's king is uncastled, Black seems to have the worse position and yet he attempts to attack.

One alternative to 21 d4 is 21 Rad1 and now both of White's rooks are developed. The computer evaluation suggested that White had the advantage after this.

This suggests that Caruana was lucky to escape defeat in this game.

Feb-15-15  1d410: Sergei likes to allow tactics if he can get away with it. He is truly a very captivating prodigy.
Feb-15-15  Marmot PFL: I recall looking at these lines at the start of the World vs Naiditsch game last year (I don't have the computer power or attention span to really participate, but i like to follow them).

The players and engines all seemed to agree that 5 0-0 Nd4 stifles white's initiative, so 5 c3 was played to keep more pieces on the board.

Feb-16-15  RookFile: Interesting game, a one Lasker would have been glad to play.
Feb-16-15  Ulhumbrus: Assuming that after 14...h5 White will want to open the centre before Black can get his king into safety one question is what the earliest moment is that does not lose a piece, although White can consider offering a piece sacrifice. The earliest moment may be at move 18 and this suggests 18 d4
