Jun-11-16  Atking: A quick revue of this game it seems to me Maxime missed a golden opportunity somewhere. How about h6-h7? For example at move 20 0r 19. 19.h7 threats Bh6 Qd2-h6

offramp: Maxime the Serious Cowboy comes out with what I believe is an innovation at move 12, and it is a good one.

12.Rg1! Almost like a beginner's move. Of course, you can play moves like that in a rapid game because no one really cares.

As <Atking> says, MVL seems to go wrong somewhere. Mind you, Giri is always hard to beat.

I'm not sure if 20.h7 would have helped.

Later, Giri played 30...Qxb4+ which led to a draw. He might have tried 30...Rbc8

...threatening 31...Rc2+ 32.Ke3 Re2+!! followed by ...Nf4+ .

However, White has a good reply to 30...Rbc8. 31.Qg7+!!

31...Nxg7 32.hxg7+ Kg8 33.gxf8Q+ Kxf8 34.Ke3 ...

Which is probably a draw.
