Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-05-17  cocker: White had a 10-point advantage after 56 e7 but had to play 57 Kxg4 or 59 Kxg4. 62 e8Q should have drawn.
Jan-05-17  Gilmoy: Deja vu :o After <59..Qe2+>:

Wojtaszek's "safe" <60.Qf2> felt eerily similar to van Wely's Q retreat blunder against "might-be-a-contender-someday" Carlsen at Corus 2008: Van Wely vs Carlsen, 2008. After <38.Bxc7 Bf5>:

van Wely is up RR+PP for BN, so +6 outright, and +10.x because he's queening. The obvious way to cash in a +6 is to return a rook to force a Q trade: 39.Rh8+ and 40.Qe8+ or 40.Qe7 pinning, then Be5 and B+N can't stop three passers. But van Wely had less than 1 minute, and feared young Carlsen's calculating skills -- so he played the "safe" <39.Qe3?? Qxd4+> and his own Q took away a flight square.
