Sep-15-17  Marmot PFL: Though black's position is bad it seems a bit early to resign. Bad opening play by black, especially the slow king side development, which white exploits by opening the game with 11 d5 and 15 e4.

Domdaniel: An incredible moment to resign, though Ivanchuk had been gradually sliding into trouble ever since 5...b5 and 6...Bb7.

Even though the engine continued to assess the position as equal, Chuky's position was in fact getting worse - which he apparently understood before the computers.

In one sense, his resignation was premature. In another - seeing what he could see and facing such a strong opponent - it was perfectly reasonable.

Sep-15-17  Marmot PFL: Guess the line is playable for black but seems risky. There are some other games where black gives up castling to keep the pawn for a while, sometimes with success. Ivanchuk's plan of Nd7-f6 and g6 might be new.
Sep-15-17  extremepleasure2: That really looks like a fixed game. One wonders if Armenian mafia paid Ivanchuk to lose this game. Ivanchuk should be closely monitored through surveillance cameras.

saffuna: <extremepleasure2>: I think you should cut back to <moderatepleasure2>.
Sep-15-17  extremepleasure2: saffuna,

Are you defending Armenian mafia or Ivanchuk with these remarks?=

Sep-15-17  madlydeeply: You got it all wrong, bubba. Aronian is the one with the Hypno-glasses

saffuna: <Are you defending Armenian mafia or Ivanchuk with these remarks?=>

I'm suggesting you cut back your level of pleasure so you won't hallucinate about fixes and payments for losing.

Sep-15-17  dehanne: Chucky was going to lose on time anyway if he had continued.
Sep-15-17  extremepleasure2: saffuna,

I assume that you are not a chess player. Because if you were a chess player you would know that you don't leave just 20 minutes to complete the rest of your moves on your 11th move. Period. In that game Ivanchuk played the whole game just like a patzer. That wasn't normal at all. Ivanchuk deliberately did this to be able to lose the game for some reason. That's for sure. This entire situation smells fishy. For the sake of establishing fair play standards organizers of the tournament should closely monitor Ivanchuk's daily activities through surveillance cameras.

Sep-15-17  bane77: I wonder why a top GM decides not to play essential move Nf6 in every queen pawn opening game? Moves 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 were candidates for move Nf6. Unexplainable decision by black.
Sep-15-17  rajaonn: Correct are Extremepleasure2 and Bane77 comments. Something to be survilled is a must with respect to the current Form of Ivanchuk and looks to throw away the game.. and the absence of NF6- from openings, which is the boulder defense for black in any openings concerned. As if this is not a Kings indian formation to tilt the Queens knight,, its an ordinary rubber type space opening, which Ivanchuk played like a New comer to chess. Again nothing could be inferred so much from a single game, it disinterested chess fans certainly
Sep-15-17  notyetagm: This is why I always feel bad for Ivanchuk's opponents: you never know which Chucky is going to show up.

Kramnik and Giri had to face "3000 Chucky" and were knocked out.

Then today Aronian plays Ivanchuk and Chucky plays like this. Not fair, really, like Kramnik and Giri had to face a totally different much stronger opponent.

Sep-15-17  rajaonn: Yes, 3000 GM crestfallen to 1500 today. just saw the other match with similar opening, where Svidler had crashed open the whites imaginary setups. BU xiangchi!! Carlsen opponent is done with, Well done Top GM Svidler! you stood there to expectations. Cheers to you to reach Top here
Sep-15-17  bubuli55: Chucky has gone this far to impress many. Take it easy on him. Will you?
Sep-15-17  notyetagm: <bubuli55: Chucky has gone this far to impress many. Take it easy on him. Will you?>

Are you new to top-level chess??

This is what Ivanchuk *always* does. He has meltdowns. I am not denigrating his talent, he is a great chess genius. But there is something wrong with him mentally that prevents him from reaching his true potential.

Have a look at this famous game and tell me what you see, starting at move 30.

Ivanchuk vs Caruana, 2012

A femous Chucky meltdown.

Sep-15-17  extremepleasure2: notyetagm,
I'm not so sure that it's something related with Ivanchuk's mental condition that prevents him. I believe that he's involved in this match fixing business for quite a long time. The way he loses games isn't normal for anyone including Ivanchuk himself. IMO he should be regarded as person of interest by legal authorities.

saffuna: Most suspicious of all: Ivanchuk also plays checkers! What more proof do you want?
Sep-15-17  cro777: Conspiracy theory.

Aronian visited the Armenian embassy where he met with Yuri Vardanyan and explained what happened today.

In 2014 Vardanyan was controversially appointed Armenia's ambassador to Georgia.

Conspiracy theories are as old as society itself.

It would be nice if you had, you know, some evidence.

Sep-15-17  extremepleasure2: Saffuna,

There is enough reason to suspect as I have widely explained above. In order to find evidence supporting these faul plays he should be declared person of interest by legal authorities and closely monitored. Unfortunately I am a journalist with reasonable experience about these match fixing incidents not a law enforcement official. All I can do is merely to try to acknowledge the authorities and tournament organizers from here.

saffuna: Oh yes, lots of reason. Authorities should send detectives to Planet Chucky to investigate.
Sep-15-17  extremepleasure2: saffuna,

May be Ivanchuk is innocent and he loses games as he's threatened by mafia groups. Have you ever thought that possibility as well? The truth can be revealed only by taking action.

  Domdaniel: <extremepleasure2>: <That really looks like a fixed game.>

<extreme> your initial idea, a fixed game, is merely absurd. Your subsequent ideas, such as the notion that <saffuna> is not an experienced chess player, are just bizarre.

And your allegation of Ivanchuk's Involvement in match fixing is criminally offensive.

Domdaniel: <extreme pleasure> Incidentally. I am also a journalist, and I think I can recognize a sane and rational argument when I see one.

I do not see one here.
