Sally Simpson: Alireza fairly walloped Nijat here. This is how a lot of people expected Nijat's games to go though out this event but twice he held Nepo to a draw, he has done his bit to make sure the outcome of this tournament is still unpredictable.
Apr-18-24  BxChess: Firouzja reboots.

Sally Simpson: Of course...I forgot it was Abasov who made the complaint about the noise Firouzja's shoes made on the wooden floor and he has just been handed the shortest loss of the tournament. (The shoe is on the other foot now.)

perfidious: Simple chess, but Abasov came unstuck surprisingly quickly in a game which came to resemble what one of these players would to do ordinary folk like ourselves rather than a contest between players over 2600.

  Sally Simpson: Hi perfidious,

He was in a very difficult position after 16 moves. I would have got in the same mess after 8 moves and probably be thinking to myself 'I'm doing OK here.'

Apr-18-24  sudoplatov: 15....e5 looks a bit suspicious. Black could have played Qe6 though White seems better.

Apr-18-24  ex0duz: 14.Ne8 and then self pinning with 15.e5.. what was Abasov thinking? Even I can see thats a bad position. Maybe he was thinking of Dings self pin for immortality..
