 | | PawnSac: see? If now exd Qx Bb3 the queen can find the best square. I like it |
Apr-20-24
 | | PawnSac: i'm trying to figure out 2 things. where to deploy the bishop and how best to target the isolani |
Apr-20-24
 | | PawnSac: if now Nf3 Bg4 Bb3 Qh5 seems strong. anybody running stockfish? what's the eval? |
Apr-20-24 | | whiteshark: <♙Sac> You are on the right track |

Apr-20-24
 | | An Englishman: Good Afternoon: First the Schliemann Deferred, then the Cozio Deferred, now the Classical Deferred. Talk about back to the future. Didn't understand 15...Qxd5. Thought he might try 15...Nf4 instead. |
Apr-20-24 | | jphamlore: I'm already nervous for Nakamura. At the worst times in his career, he drifts into positions where he just can't finish development and get fully into the game. That used to be his problem vs 1. d4. |
Apr-20-24
 | | PawnSac: jp.. at this point i think all the players are "nervous" lol but objectively it seems like black has a slight long term plus. Ne4 is an attempt to steer away from the idea i mentioned, but black does have f5 etc in reserve. and the bishop will come out. he's not too far behind in development. not to worry bro! |

 | | Honza Cervenka: I wonder why Nepo did not play 17.d5. |
Apr-20-24
 | | PawnSac: d5 was a desirable move, but the Bh4 was not placed well, and white determined it was more important to put the B on a better square (notice it restrains f5-f4 with the threat of Bxg6 exposing the black K). white needs strong counter play or the isolani will be a big liability |
Apr-20-24
 | | PawnSac: excuse me.. Ba4 |
Apr-20-24
 | | PawnSac: whites Nd3 was an obvious attempt to create an E passer, but I like Naka's Qg5 bringing support to the K side. Nepo needs to trade to neutralize the threats. I'm diggin on Hikaru's play so far. Go H go! |

His LSB has no good place to go on c8-h3 diagonal, and after 17...b6 white can play 18.d6 with idea 18...cxd6(?) 19.Nxd6 (threatening Nf7+) 19...Bg4 20.Qd5 +-. Of course, black must not take the Pawn on d6 but I don't see any clear way to equality for him there. |
Apr-20-24 | | whiteshark: 21...Rae8?? for the lulz |
Apr-20-24
 | | PawnSac: ..rae8 is no good because of Nf7+ |
Apr-20-24 | | whiteshark: <♙Sac> Good tactical awareness ;) |
Apr-20-24 | | utssb: ...b5, ...c4 is of course great for Black but maybe there's not enough time for it. |
Apr-20-24 | | whiteshark: 23... Qh5 as tacit draw offer |
Apr-20-24 | | vonKrolock: The Pawn d will eventually fall... draw is better for Nepo |
Apr-20-24 | | whiteshark: What about the other boards? |
Apr-20-24
 | | stevemcd87: <whiteshark: What about the other boards?> Praggnanandhaa vs Caruana? |
Apr-20-24
 | | An Englishman: Good Afternoon: Draw by a possibly accidental three-fold repetition. But the commentators think that might not be true. |
Apr-20-24 | | whiteshark: <stevemcd87> Good choice. Thanks!!! |

Apr-21-24 | | ultrausurper: This game is incomplete. Anish Giri points out on X (formerly Twitter) that Hikaru couldn't claim a draw with 26...Qg5 because even though it appears that the position was repeated three times (moves 22, 24 and 26), on move 22 en passant was legal for white while that wasn't the case on moves 24 and 26, so therefore the same position with the same legal moves wasn't repeated three times. https://twitter.com/anishgiri/statu...
