Her father Andrew has been a head Canadian official contact for international youth venues and Melissa Giblon is her sister. She tied for share of 1st-2nd with Constance Wang, advancing past clear 3rd place finisher Mario Piccinin (trailing by a half-point) at the U2000 section of the Guelph winter ProAm in 2016.

In 2011, she tied for 3rd-4th in the Canadian Women's U-14 youth chess championship with 4/7, finished with 4.5/9 at the WYCC women's U-14 category in Brazil and was playing at the World Youth Championship (2012) in the U-16 women's category. She won the women's U16 Canadian youth chess championships (scoring 5/7 in a combined women's U18 and women's U16 pairing group) in 2013 - and also came out ahead of 3rd place finisher Regina Veronicka Kalaydina in the women's U18 Canadian youth chess championship category. After tying for 3rd-4th place, Rebecca continued on to the World youth championships in the women's U16 category.
