Dec-29-13  Karpova: Already in 1864, the 'Deutsche Schachzeitung' published some of his compositions, mostly 4- and 5-move problems. In the following years, he gained world-wide recognition as he became a specialist in <doppelwendigen> compositions. In 1913, the French 'Strategie' published a collection of his compositions. Alain C. White, the American chess patron, published a collection of Braune's compositions in early 1914.

Braune, a chemist by profession, had studied in Graz where he also came into contact with chess. In 1866, he became secretary of the Chess Society in Graz. Braune has universal education, his knowledge of languages (<Sprachenkenntnis>) is especially astonishing. In the 'Österreichischen Lesehalle' he published translations of Italian, Polish and Hungarian poems. There, he also published own songs and sonnets.
