Nov-16-20  Jean Defuse: ...

Chess master <Georgs T. Meiers> (also known as G. Meyer) was born in Riga, in 1956 he moved to the USA.

By profession Meiers was a lawyer and linguist. 1960 he was a professor of linguistics at the Washington D.C. Sea Academy. He spoke eight languages fluently!

In February 1938, Meiers shared the fifth place with Zigfrids Solmanis in the 1st subgroup of the 7th Riga Mastery Tournament. Following this success, the LSU gave the two young chess players the opportunity to participate in the reserve group of the Margate International Tournament. Meiers won a shared first place. In the 1938 Riga rapid chess championship Meiers placed 3rd. At Christmas 1938, Meiers participated in the 2nd preliminaries of the 7th Latvian Chess Congress and won 4th place.

After returning to Poznan, he became the first winner of the Poznan championship during the war (February-March 1940). In 1940 and 1941 he also participated in several other tournaments in Poznan. He was second after Nils Elisons in the 1940 Easter Championship, and fifth in July tournament.

In 1946, Meier took part in the Klaus Jung Memorial, where he was only the ninth in a field of ten. In 1948, he was more successful at the Upper Palatinate Championships in Regensburg, winning third place.

On 20 July 2001, he died in USA.
