NILS ELISONS
Latvia

[what is this?]

Nils Elisons was born in Riga, Latvia. In 1928 he won the Riga Chess Club championship, scoring 12.5/14 ahead of Arvids Taube, E. Bauman, and Vladimir Petrov. In that tournament he beat Petrov with the unusual "Dunst Opening" (1.Nc3). Prior to the 1937 Riga championship, Elisons participated in a training tournament. He finished shared 1st with Leonids Dreibergs and Alexander Koblents, beating both Movsa Feigin and Karlis Alexander Ozols with his favored "Dunst Opening." The 1937 Riga championship was organized into two preliminary groups. The top 4 finishers from each group would reach the final tournament. Elisons finished shared 3rd in preliminary group 2, but came last in the final, behind Feigin and Koblents. In 1938 Elisons was ranked 22nd out of 44 Latvian chess players in a list created by Karl Behting, on behalf of the board of the Latvian Chess Union.
