 | | Benzol: <chessgames.com> Like <who> I've just uploaded two games of Bukhuti Gurgenidze that were not in the DB.
They both feature the system in the Modern Defence that was named after him and I believe would help make a fitting tribute to his memory. |

 | | ganstaman: I know there are many projects in the works, and this one is just something to think about if you aren't already (well, I would really like it, but it seems like the sprinkles on the frosting on the cake, if my analogy makes any sense): Many tournaments are annual ones. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to go from a tournament 1 year to the same tournament the next year. So, similar to the way that you've linked all the WC matches, could you link together yearly tournaments (so Melody-Amber 2007 has links to Melody-Amber 2006 and 2008, etc)? Thanks. |

 | | Benzol: <chessgames> Was the Round 17 Razuvaev - Karpov game from the 50th USSR Ch 1983 not loaded because it followed other games in the DB and hence thought to be a duplicate? |
 |
May-26-08
 | | chessgames.com: <Benzol> That's exactly why. There is a nearly-identical game from the same year where Karpov also played Black, so the software blocks it to protect itself from potential duplicates. We forced its insertion now, Razuvaev vs Karpov, 1983. |
 |
May-26-08
 | | Benzol: OK Thanks. I guess it can be unfortunate in a way if the GM's agree to draw before more original play starts. At least I can complete the USSR Ch collection now. |
 |
May-27-08
 | | chessgames.com: We have mixed feelings about that feature of the software as well, but without that protection the number of duplicates tend to pile up very quickly. People complain loudly about duplicate games, while we rarely get complaints that some 12 move GM draw is absent--and so we take a policy of erring on the side of caution. Commonly we receive two games, one with a few more moves than the other, which are really the same game. Without rolling up one's sleeves and doing the research, it's almost impossible to know if the games really were played separately. |

| May-27-08 | | martin moller: Hi Chessgames.com
I have posted a chessproblem in Magnus Oscar Mollerstrom´s forum, but i have written the FEN code a little wrong, can you fix that for me ? I´m sure you can see what i mean when you see it.
(White to move and # in 2) |

 | | chessgames.com: I'm not sure what you think is wrong with it, other than the slashes that appear before and after the diagram? Refer to FEN Help Page for more FEN tips. If you post it again we can delete your previous post for you (if the delete-timer expires on you). |

 | | whiteshark: Is there a reason why the sacrifices in Alekhine vs J Drewitt, 1923 are not classified as such double sac, compared to e.g.
Lasker vs J Bauer, 1889 ? |
 |

 | | YouRang: Going back a couple pages:
<chessgames.com><... As suspected, Gert Jan was thinking that he had until Friday as we erroneously posted. ...> This problem was related to an erroneous statement regarding when GM Timmerman's move was due. I notice that you identify the move-due-date in relative terms (e.g. "3 days from now" or "the day after tomorrow", etc.). I wonder if the problem might have been avoided (or detected sooner) if the move-due-date were simply given in absolute terms. For example: For example, instead of:
<Voting closes the day after tomorrow at 12:00 (EST)> You use the simpler:
<Voting closes on Saturday, May 31 at 12:00 (EST)> At least to my way of thinking, this would be simpler and more clear. This would especially be true if (heaven forbid) our opponent wanted FOUR days per half-move. (e.g. "Voting closes the day after the day after ..."). ;-) Again, not a big deal -- just opinion. |
 |
May-29-08
 | | chessgames.com: <whiteshark> The Sacrifice Explorer only counts a sacrifice that is actually accepted. Merely offering a piece, when it's not taken, doesn't count as a sacrifice. Had Drewitt played on a few more moves it would be a sac.<YouRang> You bring up some good points. <juan31> Despues de poner el nombre del jugador en la seccion "player name", apreta, "Search Guess-the-Move Database". Los resultados deben aparecer en el fondo de su pantalla. |

| May-29-08 | | minasina: Rename proposals for the sake of uniformity, e.g.:

 | | twinlark: Hi <Ceegee>
This has probably already been asked, but when are you planning to open a discussion site for the upcoming World Championship Match between Anand and Kramnik (http://www.uep-worldchess.com/)? |
 |
May-30-08
 | | chessgames.com: <minasina> It's true, we get a little ad-hoc with our choice of tournament names. Maybe one day we'll subject them all to a review. <twinlark> Soon we'll make one, but let's not get too carried away. It's still over 4 months from now. |

 | | chessgames.com: It's official! The server which we have used for the last 4 years, morphy.chessgames.com, has been completely replaced. Our new server fischer.chessgames.com should satisfy our needs for at least a few more years. Once again, we must give many thanks to the premium members who made this upgrade possible. |

 | | achieve: Congratulations! You more than deserve the few Dollars of my money each year. I honestly think sometimes that what you provide would have cost more than 10 fold if thought of in the context of pre-internet communities. The old-fashioned "club membership" fee/contribution. For frequent users like me it is indeed almost peanuts. ;-) |
 |
| May-30-08 | | Zebra: One small query - I have noticed that the server does not log me out if I close the browser or session, whereas many other sites do. Not a big problem, but just wondering if this was intended. <achieve: Congratulations! You more than deserve the few Dollars of my money each year.> Seconded. |

 | | benjinathan: <CG> This might be a good Mon/Tues puzzle (34.?): G Timoshenko vs T Kononenko, 2006 With the new server is there any chance of playing a GM v. the World game in a single day or over a weekend? |
