What's your tally so far with the second?

Williebob: I think <FSR>'s blitz games have value, illustrating masterly refutations of weak play in the latest trendy openings. He is without a doubt an all-around top contributor to this site.

Lots of GM draws are high-class garbage, though it is an unavoidable occupational hazard. The only point of preserving dozens of identical games employing the I Do Not Feel Like Playing Variation of the Ruy Lopez is for historicity.

CG.COM seems best as a big tent, containing knowledge for all levels of player and for the historically curious. Ranking quality within that is what forums and curated lists are for.

saffuna: Before complaining about <fsr> games people might want to look at the games of Bill Wall.

ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND!!

Paid or unpaid. Depends if you want to support a business firing employees who oppose racism.

saffuna: Yes I do. Not my most shining moment.

Two usernames, add them up.

<george wallace> has about 12 other usernames so not so easy to add up.

And it"s not a sock if it says who I am on my user bio.

lol getting better and better... I may have to take a page from <optimal play's> book and boost the IMDB rating- after this post, I would give the conversation 8/10 now.

Jun-27-21  George Wallace: Okay, only because this is a totally off topic thread right now, I got to share this, in all seriousness, I just had the greatest run of games ever, getting my blitz rating over 2300 for the first time.

In the last 18 games I went from 2202 to 2302, crushing almost everyone 2300 - 2500.

I scraped by and won on the clock with a few cheapos, but still, who wouldn't want to share the event of getting past 2300?

Y'all are welcome to view the games at my chess.com profile.

I will be holding a press conference and answering questions in 60 minutes from now.

Jun-27-21  George Wallace: I think I have a good idea for CG. What about having another database where members of this site can upload their blitz games and such?

And there could be a forum specifically for sharing your own games, so that they can be played through on the pgn board, allowing others to play through them and comment.

Wouldn't that help weaker players learn from stronger players and isn't that one of the main goals Daniel had for this site when it started?

Jun-27-21  fabelhaft: The game submission page states

<At least one player must be a grandmaster for a blitz game submission to be considered>

Is that information accurate? Or what exactly is required for a game to be considered worthy of inclusion in the database?

That was on the to do list in 2009 :-)

<There will be two databases of games, the normal one that we all know and love, and a secondary one which will be a sort of a "sandbox". This secondary database will serve multiple purposes, including a streamlined way to handle new game uploads, as well as a way for people to upload their own personal games to show other members. The secondary database will be ignored by the Opening Explorer and its games won't show up when you do normal database searches, but the games will otherwise look and work like real games>

Excellent find!

This shows that Daniel understood the value in preserving the integrity of the main database.

What does <Susan> think about this?

Jun-27-21  sneaky pete: To write something positive here for a change, I like the new black and white of the homepage puzzle and the diagrams users can add to their posts. Discreet and peaceful!

Tabanus: If you want to be positive, you can now post your congrats to So over at GCT Paris Rapid & Blitz (2021).

That page has been up since yesterday ...

Jun-27-21  Caissanist: Are there any plans to address the issues with garbled characters from foreign languages and/or pasted text, apparently resulting from the site migration? Any workaround to make these display correctly in a browser?
Jun-27-21  Z truth 000000001: I'm positive that the purported espousal of <Free Speech> by <CG> is nothing but a fiction.

Under Susan's watch the censorship isn't exactly arbitrary and capricious, but clearly biased. It certainly doesn't live up to Z-standards that of old.

Just ask AnnieK.

Jun-27-21  Caissanist: User: George Wallace : dude, that's apretty darn impressive. So, why are you posting about that here, where it will be buried in a few hours, rather than your personal forum, which has only two posts?

Because we had just talked about member games here in this forum. It's okay that it will be buried. I may post them on my forum. Too bad we can post them with a pgn board in our forums. It's so much easier to play through the games like that, than to copy and paste pgn into your own personal GUI.

perfidious: I agree with this view posted above:

<?.And I hate to know that the So page is a historical fraud. The fact that the person who wrote that bio doesn't understand that if 5 people tie for first in a tournament, the next place is 6th is almost comical. Beyond that, no mention of the college years? Come on, man. He wants to erase that from history? That's just unacceptable.

And what are the volunteer editors who drive this site to do? Think about it. A person honestly records factual information about an important player on a historically oriented website, and that player can remove the material, and block the writer from commenting thereon. That's really ugly when you think about it....>

The sort of blatant revisionist history to which this excerpt refers is out-and-out censorship of the worst sort.

I am highly offended by this erroneous statement.

In fact, there is only one employee I have *fired* and not for that reason.

Susan Freeman: <George Wallace> Yes, the data base is the *sacred cow* of CG.

And must be preserved .
