Apr-23-23  stone free or die: I didn't know <CG> was offering free psychological profiling by the disqualified as a feature now, for <all you guys prolly>:

Hans Niemann (kibitz #896)

Thank you <Missy> for realizing the importance of this <missing> feature.

Apr-24-23  Cassandro: I just noticed that, incredibly, both the player pages of Alexander Grischuk and his wife Kateryna Lagno have outdated biographies. They've been married for at least five years I think, and have several children together. Yet their player bios state as current marital status their former spouses who they divorced from eons ago. That's really unimpressive, <chessgames>. Do better!
Apr-24-23  fabelhaft: <I just noticed that, incredibly, both the player pages of Alexander Grischuk and his wife Kateryna Lagno have outdated biographies>

I think most bios of current top players stopped being updated around eight years ago. Even though Ding Liren could be World Champion next week, there are no events after 2016 in his bio. Currently less successful players tend to fare even worse…

Apr-24-23  diceman: Also, current downloads aren't connecting to the Search functions.

Take this position:

Game 10 of the current World Championship.
After black's 9th move.

Put it in the Opening Explorer.
Search Database.

Two games come up from 1991 and 2014.

Apr-24-23  stone free or die: <Stonehenge> you might like to rephrase your retort.

I think vegetable substitutions work just as well, e.g.

<Nothing was deliberate you carrot>

Apr-24-23  stone free or die: PS - this new policy is for the birds....

Certain parties return from suspension and already start provoking and I have to suffer?

Intolerable, and wrong-headed. You think the guy won't just log out, pick his shots, and then return as he already did?

Open your eyes <CG>, this is a big fail.

Apr-24-23  stone free or die: I'll be posting various examples of how badly <CG> is failing with its new policy and how misguided this collective punishment is.
Apr-24-23  stone free or die: Also this:

S Duron Godoy vs V Garcia Castro, 2004 (kibitz #70)

How often is a PotD repeated?

MissScarlett: The <Update Player Page> function, to correct the number of games in the DB, now only works on the new player layout.

Compare the 35 games of [unknown player] to the 29 of Marmaduke Wyvill.

You could use ignore.

...but that wouldn't allow, Drama Queen.

perfidious: Might there be a workaround for an apparent bug in the <search kibitzes> setup?

If one goes to search for a user's posts, and a word in that user's name (in this instance <Phony Benoni>) is deemed a commonly used one, the request gets kicked out.

Apr-25-23  JSLigon: I have a question about the current state of the games database. If I go to the zipfile archive, it says the last update was in November 2021. The last year available for download in the "Years" folder is 2020. And when I downloaded and unzipped the Carlsen games file "CARLSEN.PGN", the latest game in that file is also from 2021. However, there are still games being uploaded to the site, including the current world championship match.

So it looks like the site continues to be updated with current games, but the downloadable archives stopped being updated in 2021. Can anyone explain why this is the case?

Apr-26-23  stone free or die: <<JSLigon> Can anyone explain why this is the case?>

Yes, <CG>'s original owner basically ran the entire back-end of the business single-handed. He died in 2018, and the site has run less capably ever since.

We are all fortunate that his mother, aka <Susan Freeman> took ownership, and essentially ensured the site keep running.

But matching <Daniel>'s stewardship has been difficult, and many features the user base once enjoyed has fallen by the wayside (e.g. the Christmas Hunt feature, etc. etc.).

We are very lucky to have the current WCC live on <CG> again, and it shows hope still remains.

But as for your specific question why the archives haven't been updated since 2021 - I believe this is because <Annie K>, who was a very good friend of <Daniel>'s, and was temporarily working for <Susan>, left at about that time.

For a short period after <Daniel>'s death, she worked very diligently to maintain many of <CG>'s old features.

<Stonehenge: I've reported this bug over a month ago but, as normal, nothing happened.>

We are looking into all these bugs today and will get back to every as soon as possible.

Stonehenge, which bug did you report a month ago?
