Dec-17-12  magnifico: <ASAIK, the #1 rated player in ASIA is ANAND and not WANG HAO.>

Look again who's Asia's best:

http://chessaccount.wordpress.com/n...

Make it the world's best:

your eyes are misty:

Dec-17-12  magnifico: And this event is a sham of a show. Another invitational tourney to pamper the goldfish.

I would rather say 12th MetLife Amplico European (Rapid) (2012) is more legit being an open tourney with 285 participants.

But guess what, the man who finished on top got clobbered 10-2 with 2 draws by somebody I know in ICC blitz once.

Not so tough after all.

Dec-17-12  kia0708: The only one player with zero wins so far is ... Aronian. The number 2 in the World.

Unbelievable stuff.

Dec-17-12  magnifico: < Which is exactly why FIDE does not currently show a top players list for rapid and blitz ratings.>

Look again once more for the second time:

http://www.fide.com/component/conte...

FIDE ensured this provision will be set up to continue the pampering:

<For players with existing FIDE ratings, their initial rating on both of the new lists will be that rating. >

This means their current classical rating will be adopted as their initial blitz and rapid score.

Any sane dude would argue that in a race, all runners must position themselves in the starting line. Not FIDE, it would rather give their pampered bets a headstart. While Wesley takes his place at the zero meter mark, Magnus and company would be half a lap ahead before the start. Game over before it has actually begun.

Any constitutional democracy would see this as violative of the equal protection rights. It will be striked out in a hurry by calling a constitutional convention to make an amendment to the constitution. But who say's FIDE is a democratic institution?

Dec-17-12  Atking: Congratulations to Fressinet!
Dec-17-12  Jason Frost: <magnifico: < Which is exactly why FIDE does not currently show a top players list for rapid and blitz ratings.>

Yes, everyone has a hypothetical rating and FIDE updates ratings for players that play in blitz and rapid rated events; however, FIDE <does not> keep a current <top player list> for blitz/rapid because the lack of players having competed in a large enough number of those events makes any such list meaningless in reflecting who are the best blitz/rapid players in the world.

Dec-17-12  magnifico: <FIDE <does not> keep a current <top player list> for blitz/rapid>

Seek and you shall find:

The new FIDE rating lists (we should write this in plural now that there are also lists for rapid and blitz) were published on Tuesday at the FIDE website.

http://www.chessvibes.com/reports/f...

Dec-17-12  magnifico: You can download the top player list for blitz and rapid here:

http://ratings.fide.com/download.ph...

Dec-17-12  magnifico: What a bogus list...Wesley still at 2685...Magnus at +2800...What have wesley done to deserve this?

He won the Asian Blitz (two years in a row) and the World Blitz and this is how FIDE rewards him? Both were open events....so no signs of pampering here.

For the third time, I didn't say FIDE doesn't publish rapid/blitz ratings, I said they don't keep a current <top player list> and that blitz/rapid ratings are meaningless at the moment. Which is essentially what the chessvibes article you linked says.

<FIDE doesn't publish actual top 100s yet because the results that are in don't say a lot about the real strength of the players.>

Can you please move back to the Wesley So page?

Dec-18-12  Jason Frost: Back to the tournament. For anyone who doesn't know, the first round of the blind (20+20) is under way.

All games with analysis can be found on the official site http://sportaccord2012.fide.com/ana...

Evil can not metamorphose into something good even if you give it all the time in the world.

HeMateMe: Just out of curiosity, I used the search window here to check So. v. Carlsen. There are no games, of course, because Wesley So isn't talanted enough to be in the same events as Carlsen.

Reality is a tough place, but we all have to live there.

Dec-18-12  Jason Frost: Ouch, Karjakin vs Ding Liren (round 4 - blind)

Karjakin played 32.Qxb5?? dropping mate in two, when the simple 32.Rxb7+ would have just lead to instant resignation.

Dec-18-12  magnifico: after that blunder, the table is turned. Karjakin will be mated in two by a consortium of 2 black knights and a rook. Liren unleashes his wrath and fury from the early pounding by Sergie...and declares: You shall pay for your barbarism:http://youtu.be/sOVFtLNqPg0
