Dec-14-04  drukenknight: can white do a stonewall w/ 39...f6? or is that too open
Dec-14-04  northbridge: Karjak is exchanging queens ... his pieces don't have a lot of mobility, maybe it was better to keep the queen on the board.
Dec-14-04  euripides: It looks as if Nakamura's offer of the d pawn was a deep positional sacrifice which led to his getting control of the open d file. Karjakin's acceptance of the pawn may have been the crucial error.
Dec-14-04  drukenknight: it looks like Karja can hold it..
Dec-14-04  DevastatioN: I think Naka has the win here cause he can always waste a move by playing f6 :)

  Joshka: think karjak blundered
Dec-14-04  DevastatioN: Official, Nakamura wins :)
Dec-14-04  northbridge: Karjack gave up. 0 - 1
Dec-14-04  northbridge: 3.5 - 1.5, not a very good score for Karjak.
Dec-14-04  beenthere240: <euripides> I think you're dead right. Playing the game over it looks like Nakamura made a deep deep pawn sacrifice that killled white positionally, making his white bishop useless and his knight a goner.
Dec-14-04  DevastatioN: northbridge: 4.5 to 1.5 actually, in favor of Nakamura. But you are right, this isn't a good score for Karjakin.
Dec-14-04  drukenknight: I think white could have made some better moves around move 37 and 38 after the exchange of rooks. perhaps getting his R to a1 where it can function on the open file.
Dec-14-04  iron maiden: Karjakin will lose 11.4 points after this match, which will make it hard for him to hit the 2600 mark soon. Nakamura, of course, is due to gain the same amount.
Dec-14-04  Knight13: One tip: Karjakin will not win this match.
Dec-14-04  northbridge: <Knight13: One tip: Karjakin will not win this match.> What are you talking about? Karjakin lost the match yesterday.
Dec-14-04  suenteus po 147: <northbridge> I can relate to <Knight13>. When I was a kid (some would say I'm still a kid) we each got to be our own superhero. Often times, the other kids would come up with the your superhero name based on certain qualities you naturally possessed. I was always "Captain Obvious."
Dec-14-04  Knight13: <northbridge: Karjakin lost the match yesterday.> What!? I thought they play 6 games, not five.

Anyway, I am going to analyze them with Chessmaster 9000 and post them on the games' kibitzing corner.

Dec-14-04  maoam: <maoam, Nakamura's a pawn down. How on earth is it his win?!>

I was fully aware of that at the time, thanks; I made that comment because I believed that Nakamura had the better position.

Dec-14-04  suenteus po 147: <Knight13> After the fifth game, Naka had 3.5 points to Karjakin's 1.5 points. In order not to lose, Karjakin would need to win two games, and since there was only one game left, Karjakin couldn't win. That's how Naka won, even though they only played five games :)
Dec-14-04  aw1988: Good old arithmetic. :)
Dec-14-04  alexandrovm: they already played 6 games. Naka washed Karja's face 4.5 against 1.5; Karja lost his last game.
Dec-14-04  lisbon67: <dac1990: since i am a Rochesterian...> what is the Nakamura-Rochester connection???
Dec-14-04  SnoopDogg: Why did they do a Nakamura-Karjakin match? Why not a Radjabov-Nakamura match or even better in a year Radjabov-Carlsen or Carlsen-Nakamura.
Dec-14-04  square dance: <snoopdogg> i wouldnt think that a radjabov/carlsen match would be very competitive, even in a year. same with naka/carlsen. the best matchups would be karjakin/carlsen and radjabov/nakamura as you have pointed out. i would favor the the former in both cases.
Dec-14-04  iron maiden: Or just put them all in a four-way double round robin. In fact, I'm surprised that some rich promoter hasn't come up with that idea yet.
