May-08-12  Sacsacmate: Curious to see Topalov losing 2 games ..same variation..from both sides!

LOL..
He would get 1 point if he played Rapport's moves against Huber and vice versa on the other board.

May-08-12  FrogC: Vienna, Italy?
May-08-12  waustad: <FrogC>Wien, Österreich.
May-09-12  waustad: Losing some games in a situation like this is not that big of a surprise. All of the opponents were reasonably strong and Rapport is the U16 #2. I seem to remember that one of Kasparovs losses to Murray Chandler was in a simul like this.

HeMateMe: I don't think Topalov should play this format, if he is going to take such a beating. I guess he isn't Gary Kasparov.
May-12-12  nimh: Topalov's rating performance was 2346, -406 compared to his own rating. On the assumption that time controls were equal, his performance gain for doubling time was ca 135 ELO. It is quite close to my earlier estimations.
May-12-12  HSOL: nimh, if chessgames' latest published FIDE rating is correct, his opponents had an average rating of 2334. Surely 62.5% against 2334-opposition is a performance higher than 2346?
May-12-12  nimh: I looked at ratings in the game headers, the mean rating was 2316.
May-12-12  HSOL: Hmm, it makes more sense then. But, 4/8, 50%, vs 2316-opposition, would give a performance rating of 2316. And and at chessbase news item and similar a perfect score is usually given a TPR of average rating of opposition + 400 points. If so, being 1/4 above half towards perfect score, should give approximately 100 points above opposition rating in performance, so slightly above 2400?
May-12-12  reti: I would paraphrase Lasker's advise to Capablanca before the latter had a simultaneous exhibition against some "students":" They played like masters. Don't be fooled by their age!
May-12-12  nimh: I used the official fide rating calculator.

http://ratings.fide.com/calculators...

What chessbase usually gives is the hypothetical TPR if there were infinite number of games.

alexmagnus: Official FIDE rating calculator gives wrong results if >50%. What it calculates is the initial rating for a player, which is below the performance (while with <50% it actually calculates the performance).
May-12-12  nimh: Do you know any online calculators that correctly calculate rating performance?
May-15-12  HSOL: Thank you both nimh and alexmagnus for the extra information.
May-18-12  Ladolcevita: I'm really glad to see Topalov playing these tournaments again, what a wonderful player, one of the most splendid figures in the chess world:) I wish he always plays well as if in his prime years, but maybe everyone would go down somehow more or less as ages turn,so it is really normal to lose some games in a simul...anyway,he is always Topalov, one of the best chess players in the world.
May-18-12  talriga25: I love Topas style..Go Veselin...
