An Englishman: Good Evening: Ladies and gentlemen, please pay closer attention to this tournament. Some of the games have been outstanding.
Dec-27-09  Wild Bill: Good evening, sir.

You are so right.

Let's hope the matter is resolved befpre the last round when the Kosintseva sisters will go about a dozen moves into an Italian Game and call it a day.

Seriously, Nadya has played a couple of good games, Tanya's game today (Saturday) against Pogonina was quite good and Pogonina's first round game was nice.

Of course, Galliamova has been outstanding.

tamar: Galliamova won again today. Looking at her record, no games in cg database since 2007, was there any indication she was back in form?
Dec-27-09  Thuellin: Galliamova has been so impressive in this tournament, even more so after having taken such a long break from chess. Hopefully she'll be able to get her GM title after all.
Dec-27-09  Karpova: Round 7:

Bodnaruk - Galliamova 0-1
N. Kosintseva - Romanko 1-0
T. Kosintseva - Manakova 1/2
Gunina - Pogonina 1-0
Stepovaia - Zaiatz 0-1

Dec-27-09  laserlight: Unfortunately, it seems like Tatiana Kosintseva is the only grandmaster playing in this tournament, so if Galliamova is to get a GM norm here, it has to be via one of the event related rules for norms.
Dec-27-09  Astardis: I couldn't exactly explain just why, but I've always liked Alisa Galliamova. Seeing her do so extraordinariliy well in this tournament makes me some kind of happy. Now please, girl, go all the way...
Dec-27-09  Astardis: <tamar: was there any indication she was back in form?>

From what I heard she was having a baby more or less recently. So perhaps that could explain some of the extra motivation she has here. It sure is impressive, whatever reason she's got... Personally I do believe she wants to make a statement just about her still being there. I mean, everybody is talking about them sisters and Kosteniuk and whoever but basically there's downright talent beside those media-loved chicks...

Dec-27-09  kingsindian2006: Would love to hear natalia's comments on her own play now. She likes to say theres no excuse in my bad play then make an excuse on the next sentence.

HeMateMe: Best game so far, in the ladies section?

An Englishman: Good Evening: <HeHateMe>, you ask a good question. If it's sound, Gunina vs. Bodnaruk is an easy choice. If it's unsound, it *still* might be a good choice. However, it would rank only first among equals because the competitors have fought very hard in most of the games. Also, if someone came up with a huge improvement in an opening you play, you might prefer that one.
Dec-28-09  arifattar: Natalia tweeted last night that she has been suffering from high fever and had to be hospitalised.
Dec-28-09  whiteshark: Get well soon, Natalia!
Dec-28-09  extremepleasure2: Alise Galliamova is a Tatar like Kamsky.
Dec-28-09  watermate: May you have a speedy recovery, Natalia!
Dec-28-09  waustad: <tamar>A lot of games don't make it into the database, so I checked and she had no FIDE rated games since the 2007 North Urals Cup.
Dec-28-09  Karpova: Galliamova - T. Kosintseva 1/2
N. Kosintseva - Bodnaruk 1-0

Now Galliamova is "only" 1/2 point ahead of Nadezhda.

Dec-28-09  Karpova: Finally a win for Marina Romanko (with white against Zaiatz) after such a horrible tournament for her!

Manakova - Gunina 0-1

tamar: thanks <waustadt> puzzling how she could be so steady after a break

though perhaps she used her time to reinvent herself

Kasparov thought his time off made it harder for Karpov to prepare for him in their recent encounter.

Dec-28-09  DIO: I am wondering if the Kosintsevas' Italian game draws will come to an end in this tournament ...
