Kasparov's rating of 2595 back then made him one of the top players in the world among ALL players, and far ahead of the other top juniors. For example, Nigel Short, who finished 3rd in that tournament, was rated 2360. |

When Fischer wasn't sure he could win, he either didn't play or found something to complain about. In January 1981 Kasparov was 6th, and by July 1982 reached 2nd. In January 1984 he reached #1 and stayed there for the rest of his career except for July 1985 (Karpov overtook him for the last time) and January 1996 (when he was "only" shared 1st with Kramnik). |

Mamedyarov 2003 10 points
Mamedyarov 2005 10.5 points
I do not know whether Yu Yangyi's score of 11 points in 2013 constitutes a record or not. |

Of course, the competition was not as difficult back then, but he also defeated Spassky in junior competition and qualified for an Interzonal (which he didn't play), so Lombardy was definitely a very strong junior for his time. |

I got into online fight with GM L'Ami over wether Shark would have had his run-away-score if Nak had not missed his flight and played against Shark. You guys need to cite where your info comes from. |

Daniil Dubov and Illya Nyzhnyk stand in his way. The two stronger juniors, Wesley So and Anish Giri, let their chances slip away, so this should not be difficult for Wei, Dubov and Nyzhnyk to share dominance for three years or so. Ray Robson can try and spoil the party next year, though. |

| | perfidious: <Maatalkko>: Minor point: Lombardy's win over Spassky was in what was then known as the World Student Team event, for which all players under 26 were eligible. Both players were 23 that year, so not exactly juniors. Believe there were pundits who regarded Lombardy as a greater talent than Fischer-after the former won the Junior at Toronto, and before the latter won the US Closed event. |

It appears that Mamedyarov got 10 points when he won the first time (in 2003) & 10.5 points when he won the second time (in 2005). He did not get 12 points on either occasion. All the games in question are available not only on CG but also on 365Chess.com, & the two sites agree with each other. |
