Nice fianchettoed rook. Rybka gives +4, and White has several ways to win no matter what Black plays.

Jun-20-07  Karpova: Wow, what a demolition! Karpov is back to +2 after completely crushing Stojanovic!! TOLYA!!!!!
Jun-20-07  joebuck: Nice mate by Karpov!!
Jun-20-07  borkoto: what the hech was Stojanovic thinking?
This is ridiculous, getting mated as if he were some patzer in school , maybe he payed tribute to Karpov in the wrong way.....
Jun-20-07  Mameluk: Nice game from Karpov, organizers will be very happy, strange opening from Stojanovic though.
Jun-20-07  Goran: Roiz and Atalik leading! 4 decided games with Georgiev-Iodrachescu in rook endgame.
Jun-20-07  spacetimereality: Go Atalik!
Jun-20-07  Astardis: Such fun to see Karpov back in action
Jun-20-07  percyblakeney: Atalik and Roiz meet in the last round to decide the winner of the tournament.
Jun-21-07  mkrk17: Yeah..karpov is a positional genious. Its a treat to watch him positionally squeeze out his opponents.

I guess Kasparov understood this somewhere in the 1984/1985 match, and then decided to play for complications.

Jun-21-07  Goran: Round 9 pairings:

Michael Roiz 2616 - Suat Atalik 2584
Dusko Pavasovic 2567 - Anatoly Karpov 2668

Branko Damljanovic 2585 - Kiril Georgiev 2653
Viorel Iordachescu 2587 - Predrag Nikolic 2631

Jun-21-07  Karpova: Pavasovic-Karpov 1/2 after 10 moves
Sojanovic-Ivanisevic 1/2 after 8 moves
Jun-21-07  ahmadov: It is nice to see Atalik leading in this tounament. I haven't seen him much winning tournaments... By the way, now that Roiz and Atalik drew, who is the winner of the tournament. Is there any tie-break match?
Jun-21-07  ardarel: <ahmadov> Official web page states that both Atalik and Roiz are tied for the first place. The do not mention any tie break system.
Jun-21-07  mynameisrandy: <Nice fianchettoed rook.>

I can't stop laughing about this. What is that poor guy doing there?

Jun-21-07  Eti fan: Roiz is first on the better tiebreak! http://www.chessdom.com/valjevo-200...
Jun-21-07  Eti fan: this is the official line from the media partner, so it must be like this
Jun-22-07  Goran: Roiz is first on tiebreak. He arrived as tourist from Barcelona and is proceeding to explore Belgrade for few days.

Jun-22-07  Wild Bill: Congratulations to Tolya for a fine tournament.

Who actually won will be the answer to a trivia question someday.

Jun-24-07  Goran: http://videos.chessdom.com/gorenje

Georgiev-Roiz and Atalik-Stojanovic

Jun-27-07  Goran: In an interview after the tournament, Karpov said this should not be considered his comeback, but he will play again in Valjevo next year.
