The 12 round US Open with qualifying places for the US Championships took place August 3rd-15th in Los Angeles. Gregory Kaidanov was by far the strongest player but he ended up in a five way tie for second half a point behind Alexander Shabalov who finished on 10/12. 455 players competed.
