Chessgames.com Chess Event Description
Amsterdam OHRA Crown Group (1990)

"From a Hungarian perspective, the traditional Amsterdam chess festival ended excellently. In the Category 14, the so-called "Crown Group", Grandmaster Portisch finished second behind the winner Soviet Beliavsky. An even greater success was achieved by Judit Polgár, who tied for first place with Soviet Grandmaster Tukmakov in the 24-participant, 9-round open grandmaster tournament! Crown Group Beliavsky repeated his success from last year. He was in the lead the whole time, his lead was never in danger for a moment. He showed off his class in a few remarkable games. Lajos Portisch won an important victory against Korchnoi in the heat, thus securing the "silver medal". In the balanced field, the grandmasters - with the exception of no. 1 Beliavsky - followed each other in a nice "goose line" with a difference of half a point between each." (Sakkélet, transl.)
