Trebitsch Memorial (1933)

The 16th Trebitsch Memorial was played in Hotel Palace (1-7) and Café Central (8-15) in Vienna, Austra from 12 November to 6 December 1933. It was organized by the Hietzing chess club. With one exception (Round 5 on Saturday 18 November), games were played on Sundays (5-10 pm), Mondays (6-11 pm), Wednesdays (6-11 pm) and Thursdays (6-11 pm). Adjourned games were played off on Tuesdays and Fridays, and Thursday 7 December. Time control: 2½ hours (from 11:30 to 2 on the clocks) for the first 40 moves, followed by 1 extra hour every 16 moves. Prizes: 600, 450, 300, 200, 150, 100 and 50 Schilling for the top 7 players, and for the others, 10 Schilling for beating a prize winner. Tournament director: Franz Uhlirsch (apparently). Glass, Grünfeld, Spielmann and Müller had 9.5 points before the last round. Grünfeld and Müller shared the victory with 10.5/15. Number of games played: 120.

  Tabanus: 46 games were added from ChessBase, of which one was obviously wrong and had to be taken from WSZ (Simon Rubinstein vs A Becker, 1933). The remaining 45 game scores are not much checked by me.

WSZ notes that 4 + 2 playing days a week was too much, that it lowered the quality of the games and that there would be a slower pace next year.
