WannaBe: How horrible... Ruy Lopez festival, and they DARE to open other openings?!?!?! =)
Mar-22-07  MyriadChoices: I'm really happy to see Granda-Zuniga playing amongst big names like Sokolov and Pono.
Mar-23-07  BishopofBlunder: <WannaBe: How horrible... Ruy Lopez festival, and they DARE to open other openings?!?!?! =)> no kidding! The absolute nerve!

I once played in the Berlin Open and one of my opponents opened with 1.d4!!! I was apalled!

Mar-23-07  Troglodyte: Armenia is pumping out chess geniuses like there's no tomorow.
Mar-23-07  eyalbd: It is strange that I see openings other than the Lopez :-)

In such a festival I would require all games to start after 3. ♗b5 . The player with the white pieces starts the clock and then black moves 3. ..a6 or other moves

Mar-23-07  Timex: <eyalbd:In such a festival I would require all games to start after 3. b5 . The player with the white pieces starts the clock and then black moves 3. ..a6 or other moves>

People would get more time to think and people like Bobby Fisher would own

Mar-23-07  capablancakarpov: The link to see the 7h round live, with an interesting Sargissian-Granda

Mar-23-07  elLocoEvans: oops outstanding performance that of Sargissian!
Mar-26-07  ChessNe1: Yifan Hou, and anyone else should take a break between tournaments.
Mar-27-07  ahmadov: What happened to Sasi? I did not expect him to perform so poorly...
Mar-27-07  refutor: <in such a festival i would require all games to start after 3.Bb5>

there was a concurrent open tournament that required everyone to play the ruy lopez

Mar-28-07  Inf: how many ELO points will Granda gain? anyone knows? :)
Mar-28-07  Bobak Zahmat: Well Sargissian well the Ruy Lopez twice, both games won.
Mar-30-07  Petrosian63: Wow pure ownage.
Mar-30-07  DIEGOGG: <Inf: how many ELO points will Granda gain? anyone knows? :)> An interesting link about this tournament, and for information about chess in Extremadura (Spain), the natal region of Ruy Lopez (born in Segura de Leon and priest in Zafra) is: http://chessmagic.juntaextremadura.... (in spanish) Also includes an interview with Julio Granda.
Mar-30-07  nikolajewitsch: <Inf> About 25 I guess.
Mar-30-07  gmgomes: Who knows how was SargissianĀ“s reting performance here?
Mar-30-07  Timex: Lots of the top players flunked here. Sasi must have been exhausted from Aeroflot, etc. and Sokolov too. Pono failed in Corus and therefore, failed here too.
Mar-30-07  Sydro: 3021 performance rating by Sargissian.
Jul-01-15  landogriffin: Apparently the 3rd highest Rating Performance of all time by Sargissian!? Obviously quite a short tournament and don't even get me started on rating inflation, but... still!!

Also: what a beast in Team tournaments! 3 Team Gold, 1 Ind. Gold at Olympiads, another team gold at World Teams, a team Silver and Ind. Gold at Euro Teams and Team Gold at Euro Clubs. Respect!
