Oct-12-13  dx9293: Oh no Natalia...
Oct-13-13  Calar: Two leaders meet on the morrow in the ultimate round. If Kosteniuk wins against Gunina, she clinches the title. Otherwise, Gunina does.
Oct-13-13  Kaspablanca: Calar: What if they draw the game?
Oct-14-13  siggemannen: IMO, Gunina is like Stein, crazy tactician, but perhaps not stable enough to get all the way to the top
Oct-14-13  Nerwal: <IMO, Gunina is like Stein, crazy tactician, but perhaps not stable enough to get all the way to the top>

Well she has been piling up titles in recent years, so she's doing fine despite playing all those crazy games. The women's world championship cycle is so unsatisfactory, it's not even sure it's a big priority for top female players anymore.

Oct-14-13  Calar: <Kaspablanca> As seen from the table, Gunina has 6.5 points, while Kosteniuk is at 6. If they draw the game, you can do the math :P
Oct-14-13  redwhitechess: It's cool.. because seeing the table (and with a math), Kosteniuk has nothing to worry about, even if she lost. But the game is now even vs Gunina, after 22 moves played.
Oct-14-13  Beholder: Congratulations to the 2013 Russian Women's Champion -- GM Valentina Gunina !
Oct-14-13  dx9293: <Natalia> won her last two games...today she beat Kosintseva after a victory over Kovanova. If only she could have closed out Gunina.

  HeMateMe: Great photo!

Caption?

1. Pushkin Riot! (hehhehehehe)

2. "...Rose and Natalie, screaming from the gallery, 'Alexandra must go free!'"

[a little Beatlesque comment, if I may be so bold].

3. Femme FaTALs.

BTW, Natalie, there is a recent picture of you on chessbase, where you are all alone in a room, perhaps post round, looking at a position. I was curious about what round that was and what you are examining?

HeMateMe: Hi Natalie, it's in the recent que of chessbase stuff, from this years Russia Superfinals. Saw it just last night, your pouring over a position, all alone in the tournament hall.

Maybe someone else here can procure it?

If you can't win it this year, I'm hoping for AK, who has been kind of shoved aside, in recent years. best wishes.

Natalia Pogonina: <Jim Bartle> My game was the last one remaining. I was just sitting at the board while my opponent went for a walk. It has nothing to do with post-mortem analysis :)
Oct-14-13  Vincenze: <waustad: Was that game an error? The game we have between those players is: A Bodnaruk vs A Kashlinskaya, 2013> Yes I was following on http://www.2700chess.com/live and they lost the feed. I thought a phone...again. When will these girls learn – stop talking. But no, it was the site.
Oct-14-13  Vincenze: A friend of mine gave me a book on positional analysis – Kama Sutra – I swapped it for the mighty Batsford's E4 E5
Oct-14-13  Vincenze: Pyotr the Great wins the mens. Boy oh boy he's on form. He plays with same deft, calculating style as the mighty Sachin Tendulkar. Nepo makes second, wins more games but loses one. And nice work Nikita Vitiugov 3=.
Oct-15-13  Kikoman: Congratulations GM Valentina Gunina! :D
Oct-20-13  Everett: < Vincenze: A friend of mine gave me a book on positional analysis – Kama Sutra – I swapped it for the mighty Batsford's E4 E5>

In many areas of life, there are some things you just can't learn from books.
