Tilburg Interpolis (1980)

The 4th Interpolis tournament was a Category XV event (Elo average 2619). Twelve GMs including world champion Karpov and former world champion Spassky competed in an all-play-all format. The top five players received 6,000, 4,000, 3,000, 2,000 and 1,000 Dutch guilders. In addition there were bonuses of 1,000 guilders for each win, 400 for each draw and 250 for each loss. Total prize fund: 85,000 guilders. Chief arbiter: Constant Orbaan.

Eleven rounds in 14 days, starting on Friday 19 September. Ribli had to forfeit his final round game against Sosonko as his father had just died (66 - 1 = 65 games). Rest days 22, 26 September & 1 October. Karpov won again, with 7.5/11.
