Introduction
Manager Caswell gave out the names of the players who will take part in the intercollegiate tournament at the Columbia Grammar School in this city next week, when two players from each of the Columbia, Harvard, Yale and Princeton universities will engage in play over the board. While the official list contains the name of the Harvard player, Catchings, a special despatch to this city yesterday brought the news that Rice will partner Perry in the contest. The list of players and substitutes, therefore, reads as follows:
Columbia—K. G. Falk, 1901, S., and F. H. Sewall, 1902, C.; substitutes H. A. Boehm, 1900, S., and R. C. T. Schroeder, Sp.
Harvard—E. R. Perry, 1903, and C. T. Rice, 1901; substitutes W. Catchings, 1901, and F. E. Thayer, 1900.
Yale—L. A. Cook, 1901, and J. M. Morgan, 1902, S.; substitutes S. B. Adams, 1901, and A. Austell, L.
Princeton—J. C. Henley, Jr., 1902, and J. B. Hunt, 1902; substitutes G. W. Scott, 1902, and A. S. Weston, P.G. (1)

The eighth annual intercollegiate chess tournament between Columbia, Harvard, Yale and Princeton universities was begun in this city at the Columbia Grammar School yesterday afternoon, when all the principal players selected were ready to defend the honor of their respective universities. It was not necessary to call the substitutes to the boards. Kaufman G. Falk and Frank H. Sewall appeared for Columbia, and Claude T. Rice and Everett R. Perry were ready to play for Harvard. Yale's men, Louis A. Cook and Joseph M. Morgan, were also on time, and John C. Henley and James B. Hunt appeared for Princeton. The players sat down to the boards at the scheduled time, 2 o'clock. Preceded by 7th Intercollegiate Cup, New York (1898).
