Sep-14-04 | | iron maiden: Chessgames.com might like to know that Nisipeanu, not Kasimdzhanov, had the superior tie-break. |
Sep-14-04 | | Giancarlo: I think that this might show that Kasim wasn't as fluke as everyone thought he was. Of course, you have to be good to be lucky, and lucky to be good. |
Sep-14-04 | | acirce: This shows yet again that Kasim is capable of playing very well, just as it was once again proven in his previous tournament that he is also capable of playing very bad. It is striking how he never seems to play like his rating but always much better or much worse! |

<It is striking how he never seems to play like his rating but always much better or much worse!>So true. Again in the FIDE KO tourney in Libya, he played much above his 2600+ rating, more of a 2750+ rating. He seems a little lop sided, but if he has a good preformance against Kaspy, I'll bet it won't be a blow out like everyone thinks it will be. |
Sep-14-04 | | acirce: If he's in good form against Kasparov the odds are not that bad that he could even win, I honestly think that. If he's in bad form though, he might get massacred. |
Sep-14-04 | | markos: I don't think Kasim can harm Kasparov. GK is a veteran match player for strarters. |
Sep-14-04 | | Giancarlo: It will all depend on the form he is in. I'm sure he'll be wanting to show everyone up and prove how good he actually is. It seems like his one oppurtunity that he has. <the odds are not that bad that he could even win>
If he wins, I think it will change the way the chess world looks at the game of chess. It would be phenomenal. |
Sep-14-04 | | Giancarlo: <GK is a veteran match player for starters. >
That means nothing. Just look at how he lost to Kramnik in 2000. And now shouldn't then Kramnik be the dominant player? Well look at his recent play. There is room for Kasim to make his move. Especially if Kasparov takes the match light hearted. |
Sep-14-04 | | acirce: What happened to Sutovsky, btw? After an excellent start he seems to have just collapsed. |
Sep-14-04 | | iron maiden: He was the clear leader after three rounds, but after that he could muster only 1/5. |
Sep-14-04 | | Knight13: Pendyala Harikrishna (2525) beat Alexander Beliavsky (2710)!? Not really possible answer. |
Sep-14-04 | | RisingChamp: Harikrishna is much better than that rating indicates. But he is inconsistent if you wish to see a truly awful example of a GM playing like an absolute patzer watch his game with Ivanchuk as white in Nimzo-Indian at Libya. On the other hand he can also produce some brilliant chess. One cannot expect great consistency from a teenager. |
Sep-14-04 | | iron maiden: <Knight13> The ratings in parenthesis are the player's highest rating ever, not their current one. Beliavsky is rated much lower than 2710 now. |
Sep-14-04 | | familyguy: man the punani super tournament had some interesting games |
Sep-15-04 | | apple head: No, Kasimshnov didnt win first prize, Liviu Dieter Nisipeanu did. So you should put Liviu Dieter Nisipeanu above Rustam, Liviu Dieter Nisipeanu won the trophy |
Sep-17-04 | | Knight13: It says "Pune Super GM Tournament." But most of them are International Masters. |
Sep-17-04 | | RisingChamp: ???????? That is just not true! All of them are GMs.Some of the rating and titles on the scoresheets on this site are outdated. |
Sep-22-04 | | Knight13: Nevermind. I found out over 2450 ratings can get GM. |
Oct-13-04 | | apple head: <Knight13> Your statment "you can get a GM at 2450 rating" I am afraid your incorrect. But once you are a GM and go under 2500 than you can't lose your GM tittle. |
Oct-13-04
 | | Eggman: Is this really a SUPER GM tournament? I've certainly never heard of Sutovsky, or Ganguly, and some of the other names barely ring a bell. <<I found out over 2450 ratings can get GM.>> One does not get the GM title by achieving a certain rating. Rather one gets the title by performing sufficiently well (such a performance is called a GM norm) in a given number of events over a given period of time. If I'm not mistaken one needs to earn 3 GM norms within two years to earn the GM title, which can then never be taken away. The international master title is earned in a similar way. |
Oct-13-04 | | refutor: sutovsky was european champion a couple of years ago...nisipeanu was one of the final four in the las vegas FIDE WC...kasim we all know ;) the rest are indian GMs except for azmai and beliavsky |
