The Remco Heite tournament takes place Friday 28th - Sunday 30th November 2008 in the Dutch city of Wolvega.

Participants in the main group are: Loek van Wely, Sergey Tiviakov, Artur Yusupov, Simen Agdestein, Bartlomiej Macieja and Erik van den Doel.

They play a single round robin: 2 games on Friday, 1 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.

The winner receives, among others, a bonus with which he can buy a real race horse, for which this Frisian region 'De Stellingwerven' is famous!

Nov-30-08  dx9293: They invite 2600 GMs and they have two 2-a-days? Strange. Something that would happen here in the USA open swisses.
Nov-30-08  Alphastar: it's a city now? wow. Wolvega only has like 12000 inhabitants. :P

SwitchingQuylthulg: Van Wely has Black against Yusupov in a must-win situation (supposing he wants to win the tournament)...

This tournament was not rated...

Dec-01-08  frogbert: agdestein somehow found it appropriate to draw his two highest rated opponents and lose against the rest. the bad form from the olympiad continued, obviously...
Dec-05-08  achieve: Good call <plimko>!

<Chessvibes>:

"Here are all the games from the tournament, and with almost no exception they are highly recommended for replay. <Most of the players admitted that because the tournament was not FIDE rated, they felt they could play more freely, and that it led to more interesting, fighting games>." -- http://www.chessvibes.com/reports/m...

Time to replay a few of these games...

Dec-07-08  Maroczy: We need an eccentric director like Tim Burton to make a film about the GM scene; what do you folks think?

This tournament sounds like a lot of fun.
