Introduction
A second one-game tourney of sixteen players was organised,—the prize being a set of Staunton chess-men, in wood, given by the Manchester Club.(1)
Summary(2)
Wednesday, August 5th. A one game tourney between sixteen players, for a set of Staunton Chessmen, given by the Manchester Club, was commenced.
Thursday. The first round of the general tourney was completed, the winners being the Rev. J. Owen, and Messrs. G. A. Owen, Medley, Cohen, O'Donnell, Hughes, Francis, and Kling.
Friday. In the second round of the general tourney the Rev. J. Owen won of Mr. Medley, and Herr Kling conquered Mr. Hughes.
Saturday. In the third round of the Tourney of sixteen, the Rev. J. Owen won of Herr Kling, and Mr. Francis beat Mr. G. A. Owen.
Conclusion
In the tourney of 16, the third round leaves as winners, to contend for the prize, the Rev. J. Owen with Mr A. M. Francis. This game was played on Monday. (3)
