Introduction
The Minor Tournament has attracted twelve competitors, some of whom entered the Major event, but, to allow the Congress to finish if possible within the time specified, withdrew and entered the minor contest. The following is the list of competitors:—Miss Thorold, of Bridlington, sister of the well-known Bath amateur; Bardgett, of Penrith; T. E. Gibbons, of London; J. E. Hall, of Bradford; H. Jones, of Manchester; C. J. Lambert, of Exeter; G. W. Lennox, of Cardiff; R. Marriott, of Manchester; D. Y. Mills, of Manchester; Ranneforth, of Berlin; G. A. Schott, of Bradford, Sheriff Spens, of Glasgow. (1)
Conclusion
The Newnes Amateur Challenge Cup of the B.C.A. has been carried off by Mr D. Y. Mills, who is a skilful player, and fully deserves the title of amateur champion. (2)

The following is the result of the Minor Tournament, and the final score. First, Mr Mills, £10. 8s. and the Newnes Amateur Challenge Cup for one year; second Herr Ranneforth, of Berlin, £7. 16s.; third, Mr Lambert, of Exeter, £5. 4s.; fourth prize, tie between Schott of Bradford and Marriott of Manchester. 3)

Mr. D. Y. Mills (Manchester) won nine games and lost two, securing the first prize of £10 8s, and the "Newnes" B.C.A. Amateur Challenge Cup.
Herr Ranneforth (Berlin), 8 points, second prize, £7 16s; Mr. C. J. Lambert (Exeter), 7.5 points, third prize, £5 4s; Mr. R. Marriott (Manchester), and Mr. G. A. Schott (Bradford), each 7 points, divided fourth prize of £2 12s. (5)
