Introduction
Open to amateurs, members of the B.C.A. or Y.C.C.C. Entrance fee, 10s.; deposit, £1 10s. (the amateur champion for the preceding year to be exempt from entrance fee and deposit). Prizes: First prize, B.C.A. challenge cup and a champion's badge; second prize £7; third prize, £5; fourth prize, £3. These prizes to be given in objects of art or in cash, at the option of the winners. (1)
Amateur Championship Tournament.—Competition for the Newnes B.C.A. Challenge Cup (open to Amateurs of the B.C.A. and Y.C.C.C.)—First prize, challenge cup and badge; second, £7; third, £5; fourth, £3. Play in this competition will commence this morning. (2)
Conclusion
Mr A. Guest won the "Newnes" Cup of the B.C.A. with a score of ten out of a possible twelve. The only game he lost was against the next best man, Mr Schott of Bradford, who takes the second prize £7. Messrs Bennett and West of Leeds divide the third and fourth prizes, £5 and £3. (3)
The first plae therefore has been gained by Mr. Anthony Guest, of London, who only lost one game, and who takes the title of amateur champion and receives the champion's badge. Mr. Schott, a Bradford player, takes second prize, and the remaining two are divided between Messrs. Bennett and West of Leeds, and Mr. J. A. Wollard of Keighley, these three gentlemen having made equal scores. (4)
