Introduction
The thirteenth annual meeting of the members of this association was held on Saturday, in the news-room at the Sheffield Athenæum, when there was a good attendance of representatives from the several associated chess clubs in the riding, and some well-fought games were played. In addition to several matches, three tournaments were arranged, the players being divided into classes according to their relative strength, and the committee offered prizes of the value of two guineas, 30s., and 20s. respectively, to the successful competitors.(1)
