Synopsis
The third annual meeting of the Minnesota Chess association convened at the rooms of the St. Paul Chess and Whist club in the Lowry arcade at 11 a.m. yesterday. The draw for the annual pyramid tournament was a little late in starting owing to the delay to the train from Northfield, which was due to bring last year's champion, Dr. Lynde, and a strong contingent. But it was not long after 11 o'clock when they arrived, and the draw for partners took place.(2)

In round two Spencer drew the bye, but under the rules had to draw out one from the losers of the first round to play against, and Hageman, having been a sufferer from the grippe, was an easy victim.(2)

F. A. Hill wins first prize of $10 and the badge carrying the title of champion of Minnesota for 1897. Geo. B. Spencer, of Minneapolis defeated Dr. Bigelow, of St. Paul, taking second prize with three and one-half wins. Huxmann, of Minneapolis, took third prize.(2)

The third and fourth prizes have yet to be determined, owing to ties between Jellet of St. Paul, Wolff or Red Wing and Huxmann and Elliott of Minneapolis, who each made a score of thee games. (3)
