The last match for the state championship was played this month between J. W. Clark and Guy M. Thompson, and resulted in Mr. Thompson winning three games and Mr. Clark none. Two games drawn.

Game No. 1—Queen's Gambit declined; 65 moves; drawn.
Game No. 2—French Defense; 58 moves; drawn.
Game No. 3—Queen's Gambit declined; 57 moves; Thompson won.
Game No. 4—French Defense; 56 moves; Thompson won.
Game No. 5—Dutch Defense; 25 moves; Thompson won.

Mr. Clark had the white pieces in the odd-numbered games and Mr. Thompson in the even-numbered games. (1)

Thompson won the championship by defeating the former champion, J. W. Clarke, 3 to 0, and two draws. (2)
