Introduction
Provisional Programme.
Handicap Match.—First prize, £10; second and third prizes, £4 each; fourth and fifth prizes, £2 each; sixth prize, £1. (1)

Sixteen players entered yesterday for the handicap tourney, among them being the distinguished London players Messrs Bird and Blackburne and the Rev. G. A. Macdonnell. Unfortunately, Messrs Bird and Blackburne were drawn to play against each other in the first round, thus throwing one of them out at the very outset. The contest between these fine players, which attracted great attention, ultimately resulted in Mr Blackburne's favour. {2)
