Introduction
The handicap which had been arranged between sixteen of the present players, and which all be decided at the conclusion of the open tournament, was commenced yesterday. (1)

Synopsis
Handicaps.—In the handicaps the Rev. C. E. Ranken won the 1st prize, and the Rev. C. R. (sic) Pierpoint the 2nd prize. The games were as follows:—

First Round: The Rev. A. B. Skipworth (1st class) played against Mr. B. W. Fisher (1st class), and won; the Rev. C. E. Ranken (1st class) played against Mr. F. C. Burroughs (2nd class), and won; Mr. Ryder (2nd class) won off Colonel Minchin (1st class); Mr. Perry (3rd class) won in playing against Mr. Jenkin (1st class); Mr. Thorold (1st class) played against the Rev. W. L. Newman (sic) (2nd class), and won; Major Martin (1st class) played against Mr. Kempson (3rd class), and won; Mr. Shorthouse (3rd class) won a game from Mr. Murray (2nd class); Professor Wayte (1st class) played against the Rev. E. P. Pierpoint (1st class), and won.

Second Round: Rev. A. B. Skipworth (1st class) played against Mr. Ryder (2nd class), and won; Rev. C. E. Ranken (1st class) won a game from Major Martin (1st class); Mr. Fisher (1st class) played against Mr. Burroughs (2nd class), and won; Rev. E. P. Pierpoint (1st class) won of Mr. Kempson (3rd class); Rev. W. L. Newman (2nd class) played against Mr. Murray (also of the 2nd class) and won. (X02)

Conclusion
In the handicap tourney, for which there were 16 entries, Mr Ranken won 1st prize, while Mr Skipworth took 2d, Mr Pierpoint 3d, and Mr Fisher 4th. (3)
