Feb-07-04  Helloween: Another excellent showing by the chap. I appreciate his style of play, although his tendency to overlook good opportunites for himself in positions has risen since his WC challenger days. He still plays a very extremely tricky and fighting game to the end. I've seen him swindle a win with a Rook and 2 pawn vs. Bishop, Knight and 4 pawn ending on playchess.com in 3+2 minute blitz!

He may be an equally strong annotator/writer. He is a straight-shooter with a strong vocabulary and diction skills. I greatly enjoy his columns.

Benzol: <Helloween> Forgive me for my ignorance but whom are you talking about?
Feb-07-04  matein8: <Benzol> Lol, I believe he's referring to the winner of the tourney, ND Short.

BTW, I found a website of chess advice that you can show the potential coaches of the Auckland chess club: http://www.chessville.com/ The "Instruction" drop down has some good advice.

Here's a link to the website of this tourney: http://www.gibraltarchesscongress.c...

Benzol: <matein8> Thanks for this one mate. I'll take me awhile to look through this interesting site.
Feb-09-04  armtwister: Good that good old Shorty has started playing the main lines again!! ,especially the English Attack which he popularised in the 80's.He's back!!
Feb-10-04  Taidanii: No doubt about it. Nigel certainly tore this one up.
Feb-26-04  alfredazzopardi: I am indeed very pleased that I have been registered with your extremely informative and excellent page. Well Done!!! I will definitely become more accustomed with the contents of the site and hope to contribute in a very small way to the already polished contributions. Comgratulations. Regards from Malta.
Feb-26-04  Larsker: <azzopardi> Yea, the contributions are very polished on this site - especially today ;-)

Ummm...how could he swindle that endgame that you were talking about? R+2P against NB+4P is a win for the player with the Knight, Bishop, and 4 pawns. So if he did indeed lose with the Rook and 2 pawns, then it was probably only because he was supposed to.
