Alexander Alekhine Games, 1915-1919
Compiled by MonsieurL
--*--

These were the war years, turbulent ones for Russian-born Alekhine. After serving time as a prisoner of war when he was taken at an international tournament in Mannheim in 1914, he was set free a month later. He was a Russian Red Cross worker in Austria until 1916. He went from being an investigator in Moscow to death row inmate in 1919, accused of being a White spy.
