Riga 1937 (25 March-3 April) Sixth Latvian Chess Congress/Third official Latvian Chess Championship (Seventh Latvian Chess Championship if you include the winners of the first six Latvian Chess Congresses).

The masters section of this event was a quadruple round robin between three of Latvia's chess masters: V. Petrovs, F. Apsenieks, and M. Feigins. <Petrovs finished 1st> over F. Apsenieks and M. Sixth Chess Congress of the Latvian Chess Union.

On March 25, 1937 at 11 am, in the Riga Gymnasium 1 (Raiņa blvd. 8), started 6th Latvian Chess Congress. Players were divided to several groups/sections. The separate tournament "Latvian championship" included 4 masters: F. Apsenieks, M. Feigins, E.Krūmiņs and V. Petrovs. Krūmiņs didn't take part in the tournament because of the illness.

The 2nd tournament was the 'main chess congress tournament' in which took part 28 players divided to 2 sections.

The side tournament included 16 players. First time in Latvia history was organized women championship in which took part 10 participants.

"Thursday (March 25, 1937) morning the VI. Congress of the Latvian Chess Federation was opened by the professor of the Latvian University A. Kalnins ... After a brief greeting by the President of Latvia A. Melnbahrdis, the first round started."

In the masters robin round tournament players played 4 times each with other.

Section 1:

The 2nd tournament of the 6th Latvian chess congress (the 'main chess congress tournament') included 28 players divided to 2 sections.

1st Section:
1 A. Melnbārdis, H. Mui‍nieks, J. Cimermanis,,Indr. Kalniņs V. Rozenbergs, O. Avotiņs, G. Bezručko (from Jelgavā), A. Koblenc, Dr. R. Kerkovius, T. Bergs, Z. Solmanis, K. Ozols, N. Elisons, A. Teters.

2nd Section:
I. Krūzkops, V. Me‍gailis, S. Kirjanovs, J. Fride, Dr. V. Hāzenfūss J. Viļķins (Valkā), M. Brakmanis, E. Lazdiņڑ, Arn. Kalniņڑ, S. Vulfsons (Bauskā), A. Strunke, L. Endzelīns, R. Skuja (Alūksnē), N. Engaličevs.

In the 1st section K.Ozols and T. Bergs scored 11/13. In an extra match match won T. Bergs. The 2nd section winner Hāzenfūss also scored 11/13. In the 10 games match between sections winners Bergs was victorious (5.5:4.5). Bergs became the 5th Latvian chess master.
